Lymphoedema is described as a mechanical insufficiency of the lymphatic vascular system and whilst lymphatic drainage cannot cure lymphoedema those who have this condition report that having regular treatments helps to ease their symptoms.  Lymphoedema is clarified in two ways:

Primary Lymphoedema is described as an underlying development disorder of the lymphatic vessels and or the lymph nodes. Women are generally more affected then men.

Secondary Lymphoedema has known causes, for example a lymph node or lymph vessel may have become damaged or been removed by surgery (for example during the treatment of cancer).
